Changes!

I just thought I would write real quick saying that I have received changes, so I won´t be writing on Saturday, rather on next Monday.  I will write more about my new assignment next week, but my new companion is Elder Contreras, who I know really well and have worked a bit with him before.  He lived with us as the Assistant to the President in our house until the assistants moved.  He is from Peru and he is excellent, and I am very excited to work with him!  We will be working in an area called Sauces, which is in the same zone and stake that I am in right now, so I will still be in Guayaquil.  I will miss my companions in the office and all the people from my ward in Urbanor, but I am excited to continue working and serving God in whatever way He asks me to serve.

Thank you Mom and Dad for what you do and for your constant support!  I love you, and hope you have a wonderful week!

House preparations

This week we have done a lot to prepare for a new group of missionaries that will be coming to our mission.   We got quite a few bunk beds as a mission to be able to have more housing capacity, and so we have become experts in setting up the bunk beds :)

Also, this week Alexander returned from Venezuela (an investigator we have was gone for about a month), so we are hoping that within the next couple of weeks he and his family can be baptized!  They have the desire and have been faithfully investigating the church, and exercising their faith in our Savior, and I am very excited for them to be baptized!  They are a wonderful family, and am very grateful that I have been able to see them as they continue to become more and more converted to being disciples of Christ!

I am so grateful to be a part of our Heavenly Father's work, and I know that He lives, and is literally our Father in Heaven, and that He truly knows us and cares for us, individually and personally.  I hope that this week we can strengthen our relationships with Him!

The Lighthouse

This week for Preparation day we went to a lighthouse that is on a hill here in Guayaquil.  From the lighthouse you can see over the whole city, and over the big river as well.  It was a really cool experience!

Being on the lighthouse made me think more about our Savior, Jesus Christ.  He, being the Light of the world, can see the big picture.  He can watch over each one of us, and if we look up, we can see Him, guiding and directing us.  What we don´t see is what He can see.  He can see everything, and he knows the path we need to take, He can see the obstacles in our path and He understands how to overcome them so we can continue coming to Him, and becoming more like Him.  For me, I feel I often get to focused in the problems of the moment, and in the difficulty of a certain circumstance, but being up on the lighthouse seeing over the entire city of Guayaquil, and seeing things from a new perspective, from the ´big picture´ brought a hope and a comfort to me.

I know that Christ knows us, and I know that we can come to be like Him, and become worthy to live with our Heavenly Father in His presence.  I am grateful for my testimony of Him, and am grateful that I can personally follow him, always looking up to see Him as a ´lighthouse on the hill, looking over all´, and I know He will constantly guide me until I have made it to be with our Loving Heavenly Father once again.

I hope we can all find hope as we continue to follow our Loving Savior!

Isla Santay

This week we had zone conferences, and were able to go to the temple, where I was able to feel strongly Heavenly Father's love for me.  I was very grateful for what I learned in both the temple and the conference.  Also, Elder Smith has been learning quite a bit this week, and I know he will be a great secretary, and he is a wonderful example for me!  I am grateful to be able to work with him and with Elder Cochran.

Today, for Preparation Day, we were able to go to the Isla Santay (Santay Island).  It is an island that is here close to Guayaquil, and there we were able to see crocodiles and see lots of the wildlife and nature of Ecuador.  It was quite a neat experience!

I hope you all have a wonderful week, and I hope we can all remember how much our Heavenly Father loves us, and what he truly hopes for us, and expects from us!  Let that be our focus!

I won't be able to send pictures this week, there are some problems with the computer right now, but I will send the picture from the Isla Santay next week.  They are pretty cool!

Lots of rain!

Wow, this week I believe we had the most rain I have seen in my time in Ecuador!  The streets filled more than I have ever seen before, and it was pretty incredible!  Before the mission I would not have thought that it would have been possible, but now I have seen rain fill up the streets several times, especially this week.

So it has been raining a lot more this week, more consistently and lots of rain comes down.  It started a little bit later this year than it did last year, but now it seems it will be doing it quite often.  I am guessing it will go for a month to 2 months, but we will find out.

Besides the weather, we met a new investigator to the Church this week, who was a referall from our ward mission leader, and this investigator just got back from living in the states.  For part of his time there, he was living in Utah with family who are members, and even attended a few sessions of General Conference this last October.  We were excited to meet him, and he was excited to meet us.  We will be hoping to get to know him more, and to help him progress towards being a faithful follower of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Also, I got a new companion this week.  On Tuesday, Elder Smith joined Elder Cochran and I, so I am in a trio again.  Elder Smith is a great missionary, very smart and very loving.  I am so grateful to get to work with him and continue to work with Elder Cochran.  They are both wonderful missionaries and great friends!  Elder Smith will be learning how to be the secretary of the mission, so I will be training him on how to do that, and then I will have changes once he is ready.

I am so very grateful to be a missionary, and even more grateful to be a son of God.  I am so grateful for God´s love, and that He has helped me come to know Him more and more as I have strived to get to know Him.  I am also grateful for Jesus Christ, and for His example, and for the examples of His prophets, apostles, and other church leaders who have shown me how to be more like Him, and how to find true and eternal joy.  I hope we can all continue to come to know our Heavenly Father more and more as we seek to serve Him, and do His will.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!
